On June 15, 2015, the U.S. Department of State issued an alert stating:

"The Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with our visa systems. These issues have resulted in delays in printing visas and may mean rescheduling some visa interviews."

The issue stems from a hardware failure that occurred on June 9, 2015, which has prevented the Department from processing and transmitting biometric data checks at visa-issuing embassies and consulates. At this time, according to the Bureau of Consular Affairs, some visa applicants will experience delays in receiving visas, while others will be contacted directly to reschedule their appointments. This problem is not specific to any particular country or visa category; it is a global issue. The Department does not expect the system to be repaired for at least a week.

Accordingly, any clients with employees or family members abroad attempting to consular process will be delayed.

Please contact an attorney with our Immigration Section to discuss solutions for your employees, clients and family members who may be impacted by the technical failure.
