Legislative Update:

Remaining current on legislative and regulatory action is a key to success in HR.  Plan to interact with our panel of experts regarding the latest federal and state legislative updates and federal agency news.  

The Arkansas State Legislature General Assembly Regular Session 2017 recently adjourned.  We will explore ARSHRM’s activity during the session.  NOARK and ARSHRM representatives attended the SHRM Employment Law and Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. and will have an update.  Industry insiders will provide updates on ACA, the DOL Fiduciary Rule and Immigration in the Workplace.

 

SPEAKER: Thomas Dunlap will re-cap our Washington DC conference and advocacy visit and the recent Arkansas legislative actions in which ARSHRM was active.

Thomas Dunlap, SHRM-SCP, is the Director of Human Resources for the City of Rogers, Arkansas, and the Government Affairs Director for the Arkansas Society for Human Resource Management (ARSHRM).  As a Legislative Director for ARSRHM, he has advocated directly to Elected Officials in State and Federal government on policy issues such as Health Care, Immigration, and Workforce Development.  His work with the State Legislature has resulted in several laws that improved hiring within the post 9/11 veteran’s community and the employer’s use of social media.  He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and the affiliated Tower Center for Political Studies.

SPEAKER:  Kelly Majdan will update on the DOL Fiduciary Rule implementation which looks firm for June 9th. 

Kelly Majdan is the Managing Director for Strategic Retirement Partners covering the Arkansas and Southern Missouri area.  With over 22 years of financial services experience, Kelly has worked on all sides of the corporate retirement world.  From corporate administration to mutual fund and record keeper sales teams, to most recently with a bank trust department, this vast experience has provided her with a unique insight into how retirement plans truly operate.  Using this knowledge, Kelly specializes in helping her clients navigate the complex world of retirement plan benefits by focusing on sound Fiduciary Best Practices, Investment Due Diligence processes, retirement plan design, and participant education.     

Kelly, her husband, and two children reside in Northwest Arkansas.  With two very active children, she spends much of her time volunteering at their school and athletic activities.  She is also a Girls on the Run Coach and enjoys participating in obstacle course challenges with her husband.

SPEAKER: Cammie Scott will update on ACA legislative progress and implications.

SPEAKER:  Cammie Scott, MSIE, ChHC, CLTC, LUTCF, RHU, REBC, SPHR, SHRM-SCP graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE).  She obtained her license to sell life and health insurance in 1996.  Cammie has earned numerous sales and productivity awards. 

She also served as the Legislative Affairs Chair for the Northwest Arkansas SHRM affiliate from 2013-2015 where she created a program entitled “Advocacy in Action”.  This annual educational program averages 41 federal, state and local legislators and over 250 attendees. In 2013 she was named NOARK’s Human Resource Professional of the Year.

Currently, she is the President of CK Harp & Associates, a company located in Springdale, AR that specializes in working with companies on improving organized efforts including people, policies and processes.

SPEAKER: Sheila Moss will provide an immigration issue update including recent agency actions.

Sheila Moss has developed years of expertise in employment eligibility compliance. Trained by attorneys, federal government officials, immigration agents, and corporations, she has been a speaker at the Arkansas Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conferences in the past as well as numerous other events nationwide.  Moss is the owner of the consulting group Information Solutions Team and Integritrac background screening.  She travels the nation each year training public and private corporations in I-9 compliance and safe hiring programs, and is considered a subject matter expert.
