A Legislative Primer to clarify and demystify the lawmaking process and how to effectively call our legislators to action.

This session will equip attendees with the information they need to understand how laws are passed and how to correctly contact legislators, give input and influence the legislative process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Educate attendees on how something goes from being an idea to a bill to a law and the part they play in the process.
  • Highlight key dates such as when the legislature is in session and when the Supreme Court is in session and key committees within the legislature that introduce legislation that impacts the HR Industry.
  • Equip attendees with strategies they can use to follow the legislative process including key websites for the House and Senate that allow them to monitor legislation that will impact their organization.

 

SPEAKER:  Sheila Moss has developed years of expertise in employment eligibility compliance.Trained by attorneys, federal government officials, immigration agents, and corporations.  She has been a speaker for ARSHRM Conference speaker 2009, 2013, 2014, as well as numberous other events.  She is also an instructor for the University of Arkansas Global Campus Professional Development Program.  Moss is the owner of the consulting group Information Solutions Team and integritrac background screening.  She travels the nation each year training public and private corporations in I-9 compliance and safe hiring programs.  She is considered a subject matter expert.

 

SPEAKER:  Rep Charile Collins

Rep. Charlie Collins of Fayetteville is serving his third term in the Arkansas House of Representatives.  He represents District 84, which includes part of Washington county.

During the 90th General Assemby, Rep. Collins will serve on the committee for Revenue and Tax, the Joint Budget Committee and the committee for Insurance and Commerce.

For the 89th General Assembly, Rep. Collins served on the Legislative Joint Audit Committee, Insurance and Commerce Committee, and the House Revenue and Taxation Committee.

For the 88th General Assembly, Rep. Collins served on the House Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development Committee, where he is vice chair of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resources.  He also served the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, and the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee, where he was vice chair of the Subcommittee on Educational Institutions.
